Spindle is a desktop application that helps you organize your personal Discogs vinyl collection. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Discogs.
Operator: Jonathan C Edwards · jon1969edwards@gmail.com
What we collect
We do not operate servers that receive your collection data. By default, everything stays on your computer under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Spindle\ on Windows:
- Discogs OAuth tokens, in config.json, to sign in and load your collection.
- Collection and price cache, for faster reloads.
- Manual shelf order, genre edits, and shelf layout. Genre edits and shelf layout are also written to your Discogs collection notes so the desktop and phone apps stay in sync.
- Wishlist, album artwork thumbnails, your Pro license key, and settings.
- A local crash log and diagnostics zip, for troubleshooting on your machine.
Tokens are obfuscated on disk. That is not full encryption. Protect your Windows account the same way you would for any app that stores API credentials.
What leaves your device
- Discogs API — your collection, wishlist, and marketplace prices, using the account you sign in with.
- iTunes / Deezer — artist and album search to find 30-second audio preview URLs.
- Spotify or YouTube — only if you choose to open them in your browser.
Help → Check for updates fetches a small version.json file from this site to compare version numbers. No personal data is sent.
Send feedback opens your email client. You choose what to send.
Export diagnostics creates a local zip with the app version, OS info, and a redacted config (tokens removed). You choose whether to share it.
Telemetry
Version 1 does not embed analytics or automatic crash reporting.
This website loads Ko-fi’s support button from Ko-fi. A tip there does not unlock the app.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
